That's the station on which I start my journey to uni every day. Ok, maybe not EVERY day, but you get the idea. Read the first point above the otters. It always makes me smile, partially because it's cute and partially because otters remind me of Benedict Cumberbatch xD
Lots of things happened last week and I really should have written this note a few days ago. Ugh. Whatever. Let's start from Monday. I finally made it to the Anime&Manga Society screening. We've seen first episodes of five different animes and voted which two we'd like to watch this semester. We settled on Hyouka (the charming high-school mystery-for-its-own-sake, as one of the members called it) and Planetes (the hard-sci-fi space-garbage-collecting classic). I'm really glad that I got into this society, maybe I won't catch up with the anime industry but at least I'll have the general idea of what's going on there. Also watching something together with all those comments and laughter is simply fantastic.
Tuesday was a crazy day. I had to wake up earlier than normally since we had a talk about plagiarism at nine. It meant catching a train around eight and waking up before seven, ugh. I'm not a morning person nowadays with all my lectures starting usually past 11. But I somehow made it to uni. I had no idea that there are such bigs crowds on the tube in the early mornings, I've managed to catch the THIRD train which was going to Temple from Embankment since I got there - the previous two were so crowded that I just couldn't fit in. It was a bit terrifying since I'm always running late and I knew that I have to find the room in which the lecture was going to take place since I've never been in there before. I don't know how but I was there on time. The professor who gave the talk is a handsome man but only after half an hour did I realise that he looks like someone I know. And then it clicked. Mark Pellegrino. FUCKING LUCIFER IN MY DEPARTMENT. 'Fucking' was an adjective in this phrase, just to make things clear. And to think that I might have classes with him the next year. Guess what are his research interests. Urban and cultural geography with regards to issues of identity and representation, queer urban culture, social identities in relation to religion, race, gender and sexuality, cinema and the city. Brilliant. I think I love Geography at King's even more. In the evening I had a meeting with Aga and discovered a bit yet another part of London - Aldgate. We went to a little coffeeshop for a latte and a chat. It was nice. I must say that as you grow older you tend to make friends faster. Of course you still need some time to really bond with a person, you just start 'getting on well' with them faster. At least that's my experience.
Wednesday was a crazy day. I have finally learned how the library works and got three books from my reading list. I also went on a 'Geeky Tour of London' with the GeekSoc members. I thought that we're going to see some recognisable places from books, TV shows, etc. but it came out that we're just visiting geeky shops. First stop was Forbidden Planet, so I'm not complaining xD Now I'm just waiting to have like 5 quid to spare because I NEED THAT BLUES BROTHERS POSTER. I really do. And jelly beans in different flavours from CyberCandy. Yeah, I have my priorities right.
Thursday... Let's start from the beginning: between the tutorial and the lecture on geographical foundations I went to the post office and finally sent the letter to Etbasz :D About 6PM I went out to go to Mamuśka, restaurant in Elephant & Castle. We had our first Polish Society meeting there and I must say that I didn't think it will be so great. I've met so many young, brave and intelligent individuals there. Also it was interesting for me as a geographer, to know the demography of Polish students in London, their background stories and places from where they come from. I was thinking about getting pierogi for dinner there but settled on beer (yay for Żywiec at a reasonable price! :D). The fact that I ate at home saved me 6 quid, so it's all good ;]
Friday made me realise that I have a buzzing social life right now, I have no idea how this happened, and if I could be in two places at the same time I probably would hang out with two different groups. After lectures I had an hour for myself at home and later went back to uni again for the briefing about the coming field week. I had an hour to spare before the screening for the GeekSoc so I went to THE pub, the Penderel's Oak, to just hang out with people. Before 6 we separated in two groups - first was heading to the Strand for the screening, the second to get some fro yo for Charlie because she felt a mighty need to get one. Guess which group I was in ;D Together with Charlie, Jack and Elle we went to Covent Garden, got a bit lost because of GPS, got the frozen yoghurt, left Elle at the Charing Cross station and ran back to Strand. It was kinda childish since we were bumping into each other and teasing about the speed, but I felt really great. Oh, one thing: Charlie is 5'1", Jack over 6', I myself am about 5'7". So the difference in height really made a difference in our running speed xD We got lost at King's but a search party soon found us and helped to get to the room. The first movie was 'Pan's Labyrinth'. I cried for half of it, I guess my education made me too sensitive on the topic of the war. Thanks goodness the second film was 'Spaceballs'. I've cried, but from laughter this time xD I'm sure that I wouldn't have seen this one on my own, but I can bet that my dad did at some point. It's really his kind of film. Oh, I just looked it up on the Wikipedia. He definitely saw this one. Multiple times. and I guess I know why xD So I'm a little glad that I was at the screening after all. I could have went with Aga, Sasu and some other guys to a pub, I was invited but gently refused. If only I could be in two places at the same time... But I promised that I'll go with them next week and I'm really looking forward to that :3
This note is already long, I'm gonna write about the weekend (which was really crazy for me, like this whole week) in the next one.
See ya!
'It is the summer of my smiles
Flee from me, keepers of the gloom
Speak to me only with your eyes
It is to you I give this tune
Ain't so hard to recognize
These things are clear to all from time to time'
