The Strokes

The Strokes to pochodzący z Nowego Jorku, zespół grający alternatywny rock Ich pierwsze utwory zaczęły powstawać w 1998 roku. Na samym początku zespół, jeszcze niezbyt dopracowany składał się tylko z Juliana (wokalisty), Nicka (gitarzysty) i Fabrizia (perkusisty). Dopiero po dojściu do tej grupki Alberta (również gitarzysty) i Nikolaia (basisty) rozpoczęły się prawdziwe próby i myśli nad założeniem solidnego zespołu. Początkowo nosili nazwę The Niros, ale nie spotkało się to ze zbyt dużym entuzjazmem, więc po rozmyślaniu nad czymś innym powstało "The Strokes". Młody wówczas zespół odnalazł "łowca talentów" Ryan Gentles - podczas ich występu w nowojorskim klubie Mercury Lounge. Zachwycił się ich utworami demo (było to bodajże The Modern Age, Last Nite oraz Barely Legal) i następnie polecił ich szefowi wytwórni Rough Trade, który od razu zaangażował ich do wydania pierwszego EP.
